One police sergeant who rushed to the aid of a partner that got attacked by a knife attacker has been awarded the Monarch's Honor for Valor.

Sergeant Tim Ansell struggled against 27-year-old Jacob Brown after he placed a weapon to the neck of his fellow officer Sgt Marc Foster.

Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their partner, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a road collision in Whalley Range in July 2023.

Brown attacked with blade both Sgt Ansell and Sgt Foster before Police Constable Wolstencroft stunned him with a electric weapon.

"Policeman attacked," PC Wolstencroft stated over his communication device.

Officer-mounted and vehicle camera recording made public by the force showed Brown, who was dressed in black with a head covered, rush to Sgt Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.

He collided with the officer who tripped and went down to the street, after which Sergeant Ansell jumped in and struggled to restrain him to the ground although being multiple times hit with the weapon.

PC Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and waited for a open target, concluding the fight to an finish.

Sgt Ansell was heard stating: "Can I get something on my neck now, I got knifed in the neck."

Sgt Ansell sustained two deep cuts to his neck and additional cuts to his arms and body, while Sgt Foster received slash wounds.

Officials said Sergeant Foster used his bare hands to stem his fellow officer's bleeding before medical personnel reached the scene.

The latest award comes after the three officers received internal Bravery Awards in fall 2023 and the prestigious bravery honor from the local Police Federation in April 2024.

They were also awarded a Area Valor Recognition in summer 2024.

"The actions of each policeman in the end saved themselves and resulted in no members of the public experienced any wounds."

Brown was given to an psychiatric detention in early 2024, as stated by authorities.
